10 Best shops in Leeuwarden

Leeuwarden, the capital city of the province Friesland, in the Netherlands has several really nice shops. There are many independent shops from passionate shop owners. I noticed that there were many ceramic and goldsmith shops, so if you love those, Leeuwarden is a great city for you to visit. On this page you’ll find a list of the 10 best shops in Leeuwarden. Not only for ceramics and jewelry but also for clothes and gifts.

CEL

CEL stands for Collectief Edelsmeden Leeuwarden (Goldsmith collective Leeuwarden), but the abbreviation is especially fitting as it’s located in a former prison. At CEL you can buy nice jewelry but you can also take workshops. They’ve got a big space with two areas for workshops. You can find CEL in the Blokhuispoort at the edge of the city center.

Matzen

Matzen is a ceramics workshop in the city center of Leeuwarden. In the basement you can find the oven in which everything is baked and in the shop on the ground floor you can buy the bowls, cups and art work that is made there. You can find Matzen at Kelders 5 in Leeuwarden. At the time of writing their website wasn’t working.

Studio Ierde

Another nice ceramics shop in Leeuwarden is Studio Ierde. It’s both a workshop place as a concept store. They also sell several things online. I loved how they had several really original products. My favorite was a ceramic round plate with holes in it, that you can put on top of a jar so that you can put flowers in it and they are spread out nicely.

De Plek

De Plek is a vintage clothing store in a really nice corner building in the center of Leeuwarden. They have all kinds of second hand clothing in all colors and sizes. From shirts to skirts and from dresses to jumpsuits.

NØRD is a concept store in the center of Leeuwarden. They sell lovely accessories and gifts. Their interior and lifestyle products are all from unique designers. They’ve also got coffee to-go.

Pjut

Pjut is a children’s clothing store. Pjut means toddler in Frisian. They sell clothes for kids from zero to six years old. The clothes are comfortable, unique and organic. They’re open from Wednesday to Saturday.
