Sleeping in a bubble on the fair

The fair in my hometown Tilburg, the Tilburgse Kermis, is the biggest fair of the Netherlands. Every year I go several evenings. This year however I had a very special experience. I slept in a transparant bubble in the middle of the fair!
And as if that wasn’t spectacular enough, I also had dinner in a pink inflatable chapel. In this blog post I’ll tell you all about my unique overnight stay in the bubble and the dinner at the pink chapel at the Tilburgse Kermis.

The Pink Chapel and the bubble hotel room were both initiatives from Bonheur Horeca Group (you might remember my blog post on the opening of la Nouvelle Auberge). Every year at the Tilburgse Kermis they do something special, they also had a dinner in a ferris wheel for example. This year they served a four course dinner every evening of the fair at the Pink Chapel and they had one very special hotel room (the bubble).
When I got the opportunity to spend one of the nights in the bubble, I didn’t have to think twice. What a unique experience! I called up my friend Susan and we were both really excited about our stay in the bubble.

When we arrived Frank from the Bonheur Horeca group explained everything about our bubble. After that we could sit down in the little ‘garden’ next to our bubble and we got (how suitable) a glass of bubbles! We also got some delicious snacks like cheese cubes and olives. It was a very sunny day so it was great to sit outside in the shade of our pink umbrella with drinks and snacks. We did some people watching, but to be honest the people also watched us. Everyone was really interested about our stay in the bubble!

But before it was time to got to bed it was first time for our 4 course dinner inside the pink chapel. We started with a plate with several bites as a starter. The second dish was codfish with cucumber (and paprika tartare for the vegetarians like myself) The main dish was pork procureur and pearl barley risotto with carrots for the vegetarians. The dessert was a nougat pavlova with cherries and yoghurt-cherry ice cream.
Besides the delicious food there was also very amusing entertainment. We had a lot of fun!

After the dinner we had time to walk around at the Tilburgse Kermis. You can tell it’s the biggest one of the country as we spend over an hour just walking from one side to the other! At 1AM the fair closes and we went to our bubble. We got a late night snack and a small glass of Schrobbeler (typical liquor from Tilburg). And then it was time to get into our bubble for the night. Don’t tell anyone that I jumped on the bed 🙂

We had everything we needed in the bubble. A very comfortable bed, airconditioning, a mini bar, a coffee machine. They even provided us with towels, bathing robes and slippers. And in case you are worried; there was a security guard keeping an eye out on us all night. So we could relax and have a good night sleep.

In the morning we got a delicious breakfast delivered to our bubble. It was a rainy morning but we had chairs and a table in our bubble so we had breakfast inside. With all kinds of breads, spreads, yogurt and fresh fruits it was more than we could eat.

It was a wonderful and very unique experience to spend a night in a bubble on the Tilburgse Kermis! If you want to keep in the loop about what Auberge du Bonheur will organize on the fair next year, make sure to like their Facebook page.
