BUNK Hotel Utrecht: sleeping and eating in a church

BUNK Hotel Utrecht is located in a former church. It’s such a unique experience to spend the night in a church or to have dinner underneath an organ. The hotel and restaurant is located in the city center, close to the central train station. On this page I’m telling you all about this unique hotel in Utrecht. Sleeping and eating in a church; BUNK Hotel Utrecht makes it possible.

Bunk Hotel Utrecht is a hotel and restaurant in a converted church. The church, located just 400 meters from Utrecht Central Station, opened up in 1893 and still had services up until January 2018. The doors have now reopened as BUNK Hotel. You can still see many aspects of the former church in the building. The grand Quellhorst organ is still there, and the right side balcony is still in use.

BUNK Pods

At the left part of the building you can find the bar on the ground floor and above that the spaces for the rooms. The exterior is covered with wooden panels. BUNK Hotel has hotel rooms and pods. The pods are like hostel rooms but then completely different! Everyone gets their own ‘pod’, so you’ve got your own little space. There’s a curtain in front of each pod that blocks out the light and each pod has it’s own power-sockets and usb chargers. Towels and bed-sheets are included and the shared bathroom has a heated foor and organic body wash and shampoo. So it’s like a luxurious version of a hostel, for a low hostel price.

BUNK Hotel Rooms

You almost wonder how they can fit it all in one church, but BUNK also has private hotel rooms. There’s the standart Bunk room for two (you can choose between one double bed or 2 singel beds), there’s the Bunk rooms for 3 or 4 if you bring your kid(s) or go with a friend, the Bunk room + and ++ have a little extra space and there are the Epic Bunk Room and the Most Epic Bunkroom. The latter is located right under the church’s ridge, so it’s like the penthouse of the church.
As you can hear, there’s a bed for every budget at BUNK.

There’s free wifi throughout the building, lockers are available for every guest and there’s a great self-service check-in and check-out.

BUNK Restaurant

BUNK Hotel also has a great restaurant, where you can also reserve a seat if you’re not staying in the hotel. The restaurant is open from 7am to late; so you can go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner but also for coffee in between or late-night drinks. The menu is inspired by dishes from all over the world. There are options with sustainable meat or fish, but also quite a few vegetarian options.
As a starter I had a dish inspired by Japan; a vegetarian sushi with avocado.
As a main dish I went for the vegetarian rendang with steamed cabbage, preparations of rice, fermented vegetables and Asian spices.

BUNK Breakfast

You can book your breakfast while you book your room, but you can also decide when you’re there. Non-hotel guests can also enjoy the breakfast at BUNK. All dishes are 12euros and you can unlimited coffee, tea and juice with your breakfast. They’ve got all your favorite breakfast dishes like pancakes and Greek or soy yogurt with granola. I went for the sourdough toast with avocado, poached egg, spinach salad and carrot-sriracha dressing.
