Food trends Pasen 2018

Scroll down to read this post in English.

Although the old fashioned chocolate eggs are still an Easter favorite, several new products are available in the supermarkets this year to celebrate Easter. I’m telling you what the Easter food trends of 2018 are. These products are all new and temporarily available for Easter.

Easter licorice from Lakrids

The EASTER 2018 Limited Edition from Danish brand Lakrids by Johan Bülow is an ode to spring. It consists of 2 flavors; Dulce de Leche, licorice covered with milk chocolate made with the famous South American caramel paste and a hint of sea salt. And Mango & Vanilla made of organic slow cooked licorice covered with withe chocolate and natural mango flavor and a sniff of vanilla. Especially for Easter you can get the Dulce de Leche licorice in an Easter egg of 300 grams. The Mango & Vanilla version is available in jars of 150 and 250 grams. You can also go for the Kalaha gift box with a 3rd flavor: Salt & Caramel. All licorice from Lakrids is gluten-free and they ship worldwide.
This year you can join a digital egg hunt from March 19 to 23 on www.lakrdis.nu. If you find the 5 eggs that are hidden on the Lakrids website you can win a Lakrids egg.

3 Easter bars from Johnny Doodle

Johnny Doodle, the straight-forward brand from Rotterdam, has developed 3 chocolate bars for Easter. Jonny Doodle isn’t going for easter bunnies or easter eggs but they’re being original and went for orange! Not only the wrapping is orange, but all 3 bars are inspired by oranges. The easter bars are available in the flavors Dark Triple Orange, Milk Crispy Carrot & Honey and White Citrus & Elderflower Blossoms.
If you want to try them you’ll have to be sharp, because they’re only available for 1 month. From March 5 you can buy them at Plus and Jumbo supermarkets and department store Hudson’s Bay.

Easter egg chocolate bar from Tony’s Chocolonely

From now on you can buy this Easter chocolate bar from Tony’s Chocolonely! They make it very easy for you to find the easter egg this year, it’s just inside the bar! The bar is made from milk chocolate flavored with lemon and meringue. Perfect Easter flavors if you ask me! The meringue is made from free-range eggs and the lemon gives the milk chocolate a fresh twist. It’s available at several supermarkets, Marqt, Bijenkorf, Waar, wereldwinkels and their online shop. Last year Tony’s had these delicious Easter eggs, including a very popular flavor: caramel sea salt! Now that they introduced the Easter bar I was afraid they wouldn’t see the Easter eggs anymore. But I’ve got good news! They still sell the Easter eggs as well. With all kinds of flavors like milk chocolate with hazelnut and dark chocolate with almonds and sea salt. This year they also have new white chocolate eggs.

The Egg bar from Hands Off

The chocolate brand with the best name in the world ‘Hands off my chocolate‘ has created the first easter egg bars in the world. These chocolate bars consists of 11 chocolate easter eggs. They have three different flavors: milk & white chocolate, Crushed Toffee milk chocolate and Carrot Cake dark chocolate. And just like all their chocolates: you don’t have to share them! They’re all yours. Each piece even has your name written on it (‘mine’). The bars are available in their online shop and at Jumbo Supermarkets in the Netherlands.

3 new flavors at HEMA

HEMA released 3 new easter egg flavors and opened up an easter egg pop-up shop in Amsterdam. The first new flavor is ‘discodip’, a Dutch word for something similar to colored sprinkles. Discodip is slightly different though, as it’s round. Most kids eat discodip on their soft serve ice cream. For these chocolate easter eggs HEMA used milk chocolate and a vanilla cream filling with discodip inside. The second flavor is a typical HEMA flavor: tompouce. The tompouce is a pastry made with puffed pastry, vanilla cream and a pink flavor. Although there are several shops selling the tompouce, every Dutch person knows that you can get the best tompouce at HEMA. They already surprised us with tompouce popcorn a while back, and now they introduced ‘tompouce paaseitjes’. These milk chocolate easter eggs are filled with vanilla cream in one half and pink frosting in the other half.
The third new flavor is my favorite: crispy koffie. These dark chocolate eggs have a crunchy coffee filling. If you like something with coffee flavor, I’m sure you’ll like this one as well!
