Recipe vegetarian Philly Cheesesteak

On this page I’m sharing the recipe for vegetarian Philly Cheesesteak. A Cheesesteak a bread roll that’s normally topped with steak strips and melted cheese. It originated in the American city Philadelphia, hence the name. I created a vegetarian version of the classic Philly Cheesesteak. On this page you can find the recipe so you can make your own veggie Philly Cheesesteak at home.

The only thing you’ll have to do to transform your Philly Cheesesteak to a vegetarian version is to find a good replacement for the meat. I suggest that you have a look at the vegetarian selection of your local supermarkt. There are so many good meat replacements out there nowadays that it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a good replacement. I used the ‘Veggie Stooflapjes’ from Dutch supermarket Jumbo. It’s a meat replacement that you’d normally use for stews. But perhaps your supermarket has another great vegetarian variety for beefsteak. Just make sure to cut thin strips from your vegetarian steak.

The most used cheeses for Philly Cheesesteaks are Provolone or Cheddar. But feel free to pick a cheese of your choice!
I’ve made my vegetarian Philly Cheesesteak with green bell pepper but you can also go for mushrooms. Most Americans don’t eat any veggies on their cheesesteak by the way but I always try to add some fruit or veggies to my lunch.
