Restaurant Dijks, just North of Amsterdam

With so many restaurants available in Amsterdam it’s easy to entertain yourself within the city borders. But it’s worth exploring what you can find just outside Amsterdam. One of the gems you’ll find is Restaurant Dijks. Dijks can be found in Watergang, which is just outside Amsterdam North. With the new Noord-Zuid metro line and a very frequent bus connection, Restaurant Dijks is very easily accessible with public transport. Parking in front of Restaurant Dijks is for free, something you won’t find in Amsterdam!
It’s also a great destination for your bike trip from Amsterdam when the weather is nice, on sunny days you can have your dinner outside on their terrace overlooking the water.

I listed Restaurant Dijks as one of the most Instagrammable restaurants of Amsterdam (even though it’s technically located just North of Amsterdam). The interior of Dijks is lovely, with the characteristic old building (it was also a restaurant before Dijks opened its doors), and a new annex with a natural feel. Inside you’ll find many light and natural colors, with one dark blue wall decorated with wooden boxes and wine bottles. With table linnen and candles burning, Restaurant Dijks gives you a warm and cosy feeling even if it’s windy outside on the dike.

On the menu you’ll find French classics or Dutch local recipes with a twist. You’ll find many meat and fish dishes on the menu at Restaurant Dijks, but they do a great job catering to vegetarians (like myself). While my friend had smoked salmon as I starter, I had a lovely pumpkin soup.

My main dish was very delicious, but maybe not as photogenic. It’s truffel potato ravioli with glazed vegetables (mushrooms, green beans and red onion) and parmezan foam. The parmezan foam looks like white sauce on the picture but it’s really foamy indeed and very tasty. The waiter told us that sometimes people ask if they can get a refill on the foam!

For dessert we had this piece of art with raspberry bavarois and ginger beer ice cream. It was a great combination of multiple tastes and textures. A perfect dessert for the Indian summer evening that it was when we were there. After the dessert we had some tea with chocolates.

Restaurant Dijks is absolutely worth getting out of Amsterdam for. You’re there in no-time and it’s nice to visit a restaurant outside of Amsterdam more often.
