The new Gastrobar Rix has opened up in Tilburg. You can find Rix at the Piusplein, where Thrill Grill used to be (and cafe Miller before that). Gastrobar Rix is open for lunch, dinner and drinks. I was one of the first to try it out and I think Rix is a great addition for Tilburg.
The owner and chef of the new Gastrobar Rix in Tilburg is Ricky Spijkers. He’s not a new face in the bar and restaurant scene in Tilburg. He’s worked at all three neighboring restaurants on the Piusplein (Slagroom, Bolle and Brandpunt). With Gastrobar Rix he has opened up his first own restaurant. It’s a place where Spijkers can bring all his creative ideas to life.
Gastrobar Rix has a very extensive lunch menu that covers no less than 4 pages. On the lunch menu you’ll find some dishes for the people who like to stick to the classics and some dishes for the people that want to try out something new. But even the classics at Gastrobar Rix come in an original new version. The grilled cheese sandwiches for example might sound quite simple, but I can assure you that they’re on of a kind and that they won’t leave you hungry. I went for the banana pancakes with peanut butter and my friend had the gluten-free waffles with fresh fruit.
Just like on the lunch menu, there are many vegetarian and even some vegan dishes available at Gastrobar Rix, which are all clearly marked on the menu. The Veggie Flower Egg with edible flowers, basil and popped quinoa is one of my favorites. All the dishes on the menu are the same size, so there are no starters or mains. If you order one dish and two sides you’ll have about the same amount as a regular main dish.
I recommend that you go for the 4 course Rix menu (optionally with wine pairing) where you’ll be surprised by chef Ricky Spijkers.
If you do want to order your own dishes from the menu, I suggest you order the truffle pasta which will be prepared at your table.
